If your next home project involves electrical wiring, we’ve got the skills and experience to get the job done right.

Outdated and faulty wiring are the two biggest reasons to rewire your home. It’s a big project but a critically important one, especially if your home meets certain requirements. How do you know if your home needs rewiring? If any of the following problems are familiar to you, it’s time to give us a call.

Burnt Outlet Covers

These are the result of loose connections or degraded wiring. Burnt or discolored outlets are a big indicator that your home needs rewiring. Loose connections mean electricity is escaping in the form of sparks, which can lead to fires and electrical shocks. That’s why it’s so important to address the issue as soon as you notice it.

Burning Smells

A burning smell in your home that you can’t place may be the result of a defect in your wiring. This smell is a good indicator that one of those sparking wires that heated your outlets has also burned something within your walls that you can’t see. Contact us immediately if you detect this smell.

Flickering Lights

Flickering lights are more than just an annoying quirk of an old house; it’s a sign that your electrical wiring isn’t holding up to the job like it used to. Faulty wiring and damaged circuits may all be to blame, but ultimately it means your home is a candidate for rewiring.

Your Wiring is Old

If you live in an older home, it may be time for rewiring. Homes built before the 1970s didn’t use the same standards for wiring as we do today. Homes built before copper became the standard were often wired with aluminum. While aluminum is a known conductor of electricity and a cheap alternative to copper, it doesn’t hold up as well.

Aluminum expands when heated, and contracts as it cools. The constant movement and activity eventually lead to loose connections as wires shift away from their connections and arc.

Aluminum is also prone to oxidation. While aluminum is a good conductor of electricity, aluminum oxide is not. As the wiring oxidizes over time, it restricts the flow of electricity.

GFCI Outlet Installations

A lot of home electrical safety requirements changed in the 1970s. In addition to making the change from aluminum to copper, GFCI outlets also became a requirement.

GFCI outlets are explicitly designed to prevent electrocution, which is why they’re required in key points within your home, namely any place near water. GFCIs (ground fault circuit interrupters) quickly detect power surges and shut off to prevent shocks. These outlets are required in areas, such as:

  • Kitchens
  • Laundry rooms
  • Crawl spaces
  • Bathrooms
  • Garages

Whether you’re bringing your older home up to code or working on a new addition or accessory, such as a hot tub room or wet bar, our expert electricians can quickly install GFCIs in the places you need them.

Ceiling Fan Installation

Ceiling fans can be a great addition to your home. These appliances bolster the airflow in your home and keep you cool. They also contribute to the overall aesthetic of your space.

Anyone who’s ever picked up and held a ceiling fan knows how heavy and bulky they are. Rather than risk injury trying to install it on your own, give us a call. We’ll get the job done quickly, safely, and at a reasonable rate.

EV Car Charger Installation

Electric cars are becoming increasingly more popular as technology advances. If you own one of these modern eco-friendly vehicles or are thinking about purchasing one, a home EV car charger is necessary.

While charging stations are an asset on road trips, they’re a waste of precious time and money when you could be charging up your car from the comfort of your own home.

The experienced electricians at Asbury Electric are your local experts at EV car charger installations. Whether you need a simple charger that will plug directly into your existing system, or something larger and more complex, we’re here to assess your home’s electrical needs before performing the installation that is both safe and most efficient.

Generator Sales and Service

We sell and install Kohler and Generac generators. We have a retired Coast Guard Chief Maintenance technician named Fred Butler that is our lead generator technician. He served our country for 27 years and now leads our generator division. We focus on quality and thorough installation practices. Whether your fuel is natural gas or propane we have you covered. We offer 18 months “same as cash” financing. Providing yearly and bi-yearly service agreements, during which, we test the generator with a loaded exercise each time we come out. That means we simulate a power outage to ensure the generator and transfer switch is working properly before bad weather strikes. We change the oil, filters, spark plugs, check the battery, and do a complete safety and operations check once a year with an extra systems check and loaded transfer for our bi-yearly checkup. This is essential for our customers with life safety equipment in the home. We take our job seriously so we go the extra mile. I will send pictures unless you have others in mind.
